Capt. Jack Prettyman of the SUMMER RAIN found this fish for angler Richard Hartom outside of Kona. The big billfish crashed a lure and fought for only 1 hour.

The father-and-son team of Isaac and Buddy Kaialau were fishing on their 22-foot Force the PATRICIA K a few miles outside of Waianae when a huge marlin ate a 12-inch Lock Nut lure rigged to an 80TW Penn International filled with 100-lb test Maxima line. They fought the big blue for 31/2 hours and landed the first and largest grander in 1997.

We have our 4th Grander of the Year and 2nd Grander from the Cape Verdes. Angler Heiko Steinmetz weighed a 1,234 lbs. Blue Marlin on the Black Marlin. He and his crew Dika Cosme and Johnny got the fish in in 2 1/2 hours but had to fight the fish from a dead boat part of the fight as they had engine issues. This is the 13th Largest Blue Marlin weighed in the Atlantic. This is also the 3rd Grander Blue Marlin for Heiko Steinmetz.
