The MALIA struck yet again and returned to port under Bob Unger's guidance with a 1148-lb blue marlin. It was the sixth marlin over 1,000 lbs ever caught in Hawaii waters and the third grander caught on the MALIA.
Blue Marlin Kauai, Hawaii
This fish was hooked on the 500-fathom ledge outside Port Allen, Kauai from the CAROL ANN. Capt. J.D. Ornellas' secret lure was a Marlin Magic salt and pepper head. They fought the fish using a 16/0 Penn Senator reel and 200-lb test line for 1 hour and 22 minutes.
