Blue Marlin Denarau, Fiji

Mike Schmidt fishing on his 25′ Grady White put angler Kim Prater on a fish to remember, catching a 1,092 lbs. Blue Marlin. The fish was lure caught on 50 lbs tackle and took 2-Hours to get to the boat. This is the largest fish ever caught recreationally in Fiji waters.

Blue Marlin Oahu, Hawaii

Capt. Stacy Jacobe and his crew, Kelly Texiera, Elijah Wahinekona and Denver Gonsalves, hooked their 1092-lb marlin outside Waianae, Oahu. They battled the fish to the KAIKALAKA but experienced a problem when the marlin became stuck under the boat. Not willing to lose the behemoth, Denver jumped in the ocean and gaffed the fish.

Capt. Olaf tells us “The fish took a lot of line and I chased her for 3 miles on the surface until we came close and saw her and decided to take her in”

Blue Marlin Virginia Beach, Virginia

We hooked it at 9 a.m. and got it to the boat the first time at 1 in the afternoon. We grabbed it with a big gaff hook but the gaff ripped out. Meanwhile, the boat had started leaking badly and we were more concerned about sinking than about the fish. So at 1:30 I transferred to the Temptation and we finally boated it at 5:30. We didn't get in until 9:30 that night. Fortunately, the Gannet made it in on its own after the Navy sent a jet from Oceana NAS and the Coast Guard sent a helicopter with a pump that didn't work. I was tired for a week. I had the fish on for 8 hours and went through the gamut of emotions. We hooked the fish on a ballyhoo (small baitfish) with a green Sea Witch lure in front. It was on 80-pound-test line and a 9/0 Penn reel.
