Blue Marlin Kona, Hawaii

Our charter, Harrison Tobin, had been fishing with us on the KONA CONCEPT for several years. He was always lucky with marlin. He told me he wanted to try for yellowfin that day. He brought along his friend, Paul Morris, a former MMA fighter with Strike Force. We left the harbor and headed south down the 500 fathom line. We were just an hour into the trip and a couple of miles past VV buoy in front of Keauhou when the fish hit. The marlin took a Joe Yee 501 lure running on the long corner. It was a sudden massive explosion. We were losing line fast when the fish changed directions and passed our bow going the other way. Had to spin the boat around and chase it in reverse for quite a distance. We never saw it jump but knew it was big. Surprisingly we were able to get it to the boat in less than an hour.

Blue Marlin Oahu, Hawaii

Rex Koga caught his grander during a solo fishing trip on the Windward Coast of Oahu. He towed the fish 25 miles to Heeia Kea, but the scale was unavailable. The IGFA marlin weight chart showed the fish to weigh 1040.7 lbs (110" length and 87" girth). Rex battled the marlin for an hour and 15 minutes.

Blue Marlin Abidjan, Ivory Coast

Stephane Millez on Black Pearl weighed a 1,041 lbs. Blue Marlin. After angler Jean Paul Bonnin fought this fish for 40-Minutes. They tried to revive her but to no avail. We are waiting on full measurements, but she had a 19.6” Tail.

Blue Marlin Kona, Hawaii

Capt. Bomboy Llanes on Lana Kila weighed a 1,041 lbs. Blue Marlin. This is Capt. Llanes 2nd Grander in Kona. The fish took over 8-Hours to get to the boat.
