Our 28th Grander of the Year comes to us, yet again from Capt. Dan McCarthy on Moana III. A two hour and forty five minute fight into the night, resulted in a 1,200+ Black Marlin. Fish was caught on Spur Reef
Capt. Brett Alty on Mistress released a black marlin he called 1,200 and one of the largest he has seen on the reef. The fish was on for just under 3 Hours, fishing 75 lbs. of drag. She came to the wire four times, but did not jump much, so this was the best picture that was captured. She was so un-impressed with the drag pressure, that she headed over to tuna school and tried to feed.
Leonard Huddy was fishing on the CHRISTINA H when he hooked his behemoth marlin on a Shimano 130 reel loaded with 150-lb test line. The fish's weight was calculated by measurements and was the second grander for Waianae in 2001.
Capt. Floyd Bertleman raised this fish behind his boat, the JUDY B II. Chris Kam and Randy Marks tag-teamed on the angling duties and two hours later, they had the fish secured.
