The run on Granders continues. Our 26th Grander of the year comes from Capt. Adam Jordan who released a 1,100 lbs Black Marlin on the Iona II. This is the 14th Grander of the Season for the Great Barrier Reef
While fishing the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic, Capt. Corey Hard on the Askari, released an 1,100 lbs Black Marlin. This is the 5th Grander Black Marlin on the Great Barrier Reef this year
While fishing the Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic, Capt. Tim Dean on the Calypso, released an 1,100 lbs Black Marlin. This is the 4th Grander Black Marlin on the Great Barrier Reef this year. Expect more as there have been a nice number of 900 lbs class fish
Waianae's first grander of 1989 was this monster blue caught with Capt. Kendrick Ching on the PATTI ANN. Ross and Charlie fought the fish with a 14/0 Penn Senator reel and 150-lb test line after it ate a 3-lb aku they were using for bait.
Kona's fame as a destination for giant blue marlin took another leap forward when Willie Erickson returned on the VALKYRIE II with another grander in May of 1967. This was the VALKYRIE II's second 1,000-lb marlin and only the seventh caught in Hawaii until this time.
Dennis Kunahisa and three friends were fishing on the AHNDI LYNN 15 miles off the North Shore of Oahu when they hooked their monster marlin on 150-lb test line. The fight lasted for 1 hour and 20 minutes. The Haleiwa scales only went to 1,000 lbs so they had to estimate the weight of the fish between 1100 and 1200 lbs.
