Blue Marlin Kona, Hawaii

Garrett Handwork was visiting his Uncle Scotty Mezzra before heading to Navy boot camp and Scotty took him fishing with Capt. Chip Van Mols and deckhand/captain Sean Bebeau on the MONKEY BIZ II. After a boating his first mahimahi, a long day of trolling on the Grounds eventually produced a strike on an Aloha Lures "Smash" on the short corner by a 1062-lb Pacific blue marlin--Garrett's first marlin and Capt. Van Mols' third Kona grander.

This grander, caught on the IHU NUI with Capt. Freddie Rice, was the first grander in the 28-year history of the HIBT. It was Rice's first HIBT as a captain although he had fished in the tournament before. Fight time was 1 hour and 20 minutes and this fish became an IGFA world record for Gil Kraemer.

Blue Marlin Azores

Capt. Clement Golaz and Johan Mikkelsen on Nola weighed a 1,064 lbs. Blue Marlin. The fish was hooked up about a mile north of Faial. The fish had a 148” Short and a 76” Girth

Blue Marlin Kona, Hawaii

On June 5, the MONKEY BIZ II weighed in Kona s first grander of 2009. Capt. Chip Van Mols and mate Ryan O'Hallaran hosted Ryan's father, Tim O'Hallaran, on a full-day fishing trip. At around 3:45 p.m. they were just outside the harbor, when the marlin hit. Tim wrestled the fish to leader in 15 minutes.
