Kona, HI – After a slow year on Granders in 2015, we get back to back Granders from the Aloha State. This time a absolute best from Capt. Chip Van Mols, assisted by Shawn Bebeau on the Luna. They landed a 1,226 lbs. Blue Marlin for Angler Dean Lamman after a two-hour battle.

The fish took a well known lure from Capt. Van Mols arsenal, an Aloha Smash Bait. This is Chip’s 4th Grander Blue Marlin as a Captain off Kona and his personal best. We spoke to Chip earlier in the day when he called the conditions “right for both moon and tides” and we now know he was right. The fish had a 143” Short Measurement and a 75.5” Girth.

This is the largest Blue Marlin caught in Hawaii since 2011 (1,236 in Oahu) and the largest on the Big Island since 2008 (1,252 lbs).
