Azores – 7th Grander of the Year


Horta, Azores – Team Habitat lead by Captain & Angler Lukas Folk along with Marco Nielsen and eventually Marty Bates weighed a 1,254 lbs. Blue Marlin. Capt. Marty Bates made a guest appearance after the two man crew of Lukas and Marco realized they needed an extra hand.

This is tied for the 11th Largest Blue Marlin ever caught in the Atlantic, matching the 1,254 caught in the Cape Verdes on the Big Oh in 2015. The fish ate a Black Bart Grander Candy and had a 148” Short, 80” Girth and a 20” Tail.

  1. Not sure how this can count since the fish took two lures and needed two people on two different rods to bring it it. Marty was not there to only wire, he was there to reel the other rod. This fish should have been released since it did not follow IGFA rules.
