Cairns, Australia – We have both our 14th and 15th Grander Black Marlin, courtesy of Capt. Billy Billson on Viking II. For those who have been following us for a while, you will remember that Capt. Billson also managed TWO GRANDERS in a day back in 2009. We will need to check our records, but we are pretty sure no Capt. has ever recorded two days, in which he managed to release two granders. While there is always luck involved, Capt. Billson is a long-time skipper on the Great Barrier Reef and he knows his fishing.
This is an excerpt from his blog:
Well the last day of Dave Mcphearson’s charter arrived and we moved down to the middle ribbonsave was , collecting a few nice fresh baits on the way, The 2 knot of southerly set, pushed me down their in no time and I reached one of my favorite big fish points. Just as I made my first turn there she was, the bite was spectacular, and 30 minutes of same great jumps and deep fights we had our first fish over 1000lb for the season. It is so great catching Big fish on perfect days.
A little more effort produced a small 200lber and I was very happy with the day, but than nearly right on the mark were we got the first large fish, a monster appeared and engulfed the Scaley Mackerel, after a hard 45 minute fight we had a fish that was truly a giant on the leader, It was one of the largest fish I have seen, what a day!!! Da ve was exhausted, and we got a early mark and headed for Cooktown.
Congratulations Capt. Billy Billson for yet another catch of a lifetime! For your fish of a lifetime, check out his website Australian Marlin
